Since 2004 Herald Sun had released AFL trading cards series every year until 2012. These cards are slightly smaller than regular size. Normally, collectors purchase 1 pack a day and continuing 15-18 days to finalize the full collection.

It is generally believed that the Herald Sun AFL Card series from 2004 to 2012 is the most stand out and collectable AFL card collection released  by any media company.

The HERALD SUN AFL CARD SERIES of 2004, 2011 and 2012 have no subsets released EXCEPT very limited authentic signature cards ( 2004 series doesn't have the signature cards) . Despite the Signature cards are often numbered to 800 or even 1000 cards, due to the large number of packs produced, the signature cards from these series are actually very rare in the market. 

The typical subsets released by HERALD SUN are: Rising Stars Nominees (RN), Best & Fairest (BF), Sharp Shooters (SS) and signature cards. In 2007 Herald Sun AFL card series, only 3 different signature cards released (1000 numbered cards each): James Hird, Nathan Buckley and Brad Johnson.
