Installation:
Installation simply involves disconnecting the earth cable from the mains input connector on your boat, and connecting it to one of the studs on the isolator.

This GRP version is denoted by specially labeled packaging.
That's because the metallic parts on GRP craft, (Outboards, Stern Drives, Cooling Inlets etc.), are typically made from "SOFT" metals such as Aluminium, Brass etc, which corrode VERY easily. That's why it's essential to choose a Galvanic Isolator with the lowest leakage possible. This model is designed with specially selected components to give the very best protection for GRP hulled boats.

Fitting is a straightforward job, involving connecting the isolator in the earth conductor between the Mains inlet connector and the vessels distribution board.
The isolator connects into the boat's Earth connection using two 5mm studs, as shown in the photo. There is usually NO need to open the fuse board (consumer unit), and you do NOT have to work with live electricity.
The isolator can be mounted to practically any flat surface, and has a variety of holes for easy fixing, including elongated holes to make alignment simple. Alternatively, it can be fixed using double sided adhesive (not supplied). Please see images for more information.
When the Galvanic Isolator is installed, it prevents Corrosion Currents from forming an electrical circuit using the shore leads earth connection. This completely blocks galvanic currents through the mains hookup cable.
Installation:
Installation simply involves disconnecting the earth cable from the mains input connector on your boat, and connecting it to one of the studs on the isolator.
The other stud is then connected back to the mains input connector earth terminal.
In essence, this breaks the earth connection then uses the isolator to span the break. There is normally NO need to work inside the fuse box. We supply full instructions for fitting, which normally tales about 1/2 hour.

The Gi-120/S/GRP is suitable for shore supplies that are protected by a RCD (Earth leakage circuit breaker) with a tripping current of 30mA or less, and MCB 16a or less. If in doubt, please contact us or a qualified electrician.

AC Bypass Capacitors - Why you need one
A Galvanic Isolator works by blocking "Corrosion Currents". It's simple and cost effective, and thousands are sold every year.
Unfortunately, some manufacturers try to cut costs by failing to fit an AC Bypass Capacitor. It's definitely a false economy.
Galvanic Isolators are designed to block Galvanic Currents, (which are Direct Current), whilst allowing Alternating Current to pass. Unless a Capacitor is fitted, those Alternating Currents can defeat the Galvanic Isolator and make it ineffective. An AC Bypass Capacitor directs the Alternating Current around the isolator's internal components, so that it can work effectively in all situations.
Without an AC Bypass capacitor, an isolator may work very poorly, if at all. The value (or size) of the Capacitor must be carefully chosen. If it's too low a value, it won't be effective, and if it's too high a value, it may be physically to large to be practical.
