FILMS ARE AS FOLLOWS:-
ROMEO MUST DIE - Jet Li & Aaliyah
Jet Li stars as a jailed cop named Han who hightails it to Oakland,
California, to seek revenge for the gang-related murder of his brother.
What he finds, though, is a fierce war between his father's syndicate
and that of Isaak O'Day (Delroy Lindo) for control of the city's
precious waterfront land, as both groups are trying to make a deal with a
corrupt football-team owner to build a new stadium. The political
shenanigans are basically just a backdrop for the kick-ass action, and
to give Li a number of enemies to lock limbs with. It also provides him
with a love interest, Trish (hip-hop star Aaliyah), who's O'Day's
daughter and like Han, the only straight arrow in a family of crooked
mobsters. Li and Aaliyah have a teasing, gentle chemistry, and when
they're onscreen together, the movie lights up and glides along
smoothly. Li even finds a way to work Aaliyah into one of his action set
pieces, using her arms and legs to fight a female adversary because "I
can't hit a girl!" However, when these two aren't onscreen (and that's a
fair amount of the time) the movie plods along, despite a stately turn
by Lindo and Isaiah Washington and Russell Wong as two family allies who
may not be as loyal as they seem. Li's action, though, is still
phenomenal as ever, from his prison breakout (as he takes out a platoon
of guards--strung upside down by one leg) to a knockdown-dragout fight
with the agile and dangerously sexy Wong. And despite the Romeo and Juliet overtones, this is one mighty chaste romance, albeit one with a happy ending for the star-crossed lovers.

CROUCHING TIGER HIDDEN DRAGON - Chow Yun Fat & Michelle Yeoh
Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon is so many things: an historical epic on a grand scale, an Asian martial-arts flick with both great effects and fantastic fighting (choreographed by The Matrix's
guru Yuen Wo Ping), a story of magic, revenge and power played with a
posse of star-crossed lovers thrown in for good measure. Set during the
Qing dynasty (the late 19th century), the film follows the fortunes of
righteous warriors Li Mu Bai and Yu Shu Lien (Asian superstars Chow
Yun-Fat and Michelle Yeoh, respectively) whose love for one another has
lain too long unspoken. When Li Mu Bai's legendary sword Green Destiny
is stolen by wilful aristocrat's daughter Jen (exquisite newcomer Zhang
Ziyi), who has been trained in the way of the gangster by Li Mu Bai's
arch-rival Jade Fox, the warriors must fight to recover the mystical
blade. The plot takes us all across China, from dens of iniquity and
sumptuous palaces to the stark plains of the Western desert. Characters
chase each other up walls and across roof and treetops to breathtaking
effect, and Tan Dun's haunting, Oscar-winning East-West inflected score.

SEVEN SWORDS Donnie Yen
In a spellbinding story of ultimate heroism, love, and betrayal Seven
Swords tells the tale of a band of legendary swordsmen drawn together
against all odds to protect their village from an evil warlord,
hell-bent on the merciless massacre of its innocent people.
Directed
by celebrated visionary, Tsui Hark (Swordsman, Once Upon a Time in China
trilogy), and starring action hero Donnie Yen (Ip Man, Hero), this is a
beautiful, stunning and emotive story featuring some of the most
outstanding cinematography, lavish costumes and jaw-dropping action
scenes ever committed to film.
Hong Kong swordfighting action. In
the 1600s, the Manchurians have taken over China and established their
own brutal dynasty, banning the practice of martial arts. As the evil
Manchu general Wind Fire (Honglei Sun) ravages the land, a group of
expert swordmen, including the deadly Yang Yun Chong (Leon Lai) decide
to defend one of the last untouched villages in the land. But as they
lead the villagers to safety, the swordsmen begin to suspect that one of
their number might be a spy, working for the Manchus.

DRIVE [Special Collector's Edition] Mark Dacascos & Kadeem Hardison
In the year 2008, Malik (Kadeem Hardison) is sitting in a pub,
despondent after losing both his job and his wife. Matters do not
improve when four gunmen burst in, and Malik finds himself seized and
used as a human shield by the gunmen's target - highly skilled martial
arts fighter Toby (Mark Dacascos). Toby takes Malik on the run with him,
and reveals that he is being hunted by a powerful corporation who want
the physical strength and performance enhancing bio-system he has
implanted in his chest. Together, the pair must take on their pursuers,
and Toby must face a technologically superior assassin in a final
showdown.
Drive takes the standard American mismatched-buddies action
comedy formula and turbo-charges it with furious Hong Kong wirework and
martial arts. The result is a three-and-a-half million dollar "B"
picture which looks like it cost 10 times more. The perfunctory story
crosses Universal Solider (1992) with Rush Hour (1997) as a
biologically enhanced Mark Dacascos flees a small army of Hong Kong
assassins through California, teaming up with comedian Kadeem Hardison
and delivering an almost unbelievable amount of bang per buck. Director
Steve Wang stages the action with flair and clarity, the stunts,
wirework and fights being exceptionally well-choreographed and shot.
With Hardison's patter, two offbeat redneck assassins and a TV show
about a frog with Einstein's brain there's abundant surprisingly genial
humour, aided by Brittany Murphy's ditzy performance as a Twin Peaks-like
teenager with hormones in overdrive. The cyborg aspect simply justifies
the superhuman combat, but nevertheless a huge showdown in a
retro-space age club is clearly styled after the "Tech Noir" bar
sequence in The Terminator (1984), adding motorcycle killers straight out of Rollerball (1975). Drive
captures the rush of Hong Kong action movies yet almost has the feel of
a musical, the mayhem replacing song and dance and offering more
popcorn entertainment than many a bloated summer blockbuster.
For such a low budget movie the 2.35:1 anamorphically enhanced image
puts many far bigger features to shame, being pin-sharp throughout, with
strong and accurate colours and minimal grain. The Dolby Digital 5.1
sound is equally strong, with sound-effects and music both having
considerable impact, explosions ripping thorough the room like the
latest Arnie shoot 'em up. There is a 47-minute retrospective
documentary which is particularly interesting on the way the film was
cut and restored for American release--this DVD presenting the
director's cut which runs over 16 minutes longer than the US version.

BEAST COPS [Special Collector's Edition] Anthony Wong & Michael Wong
One of the most universally acclaimed motion pictures in the history of
Hong Kong cinema. Acclaimed director Gordon Chan ('Fist Of Legend',
'2000 AD', 'The Big Heat') dispenses with convention to bring one of the
most graphic and insightful action-thrillers of recent years.
Ruthlessly realistic, and vivid and unremitting in its uncompromising
brutality and honesty, Beast Cops is a visceral and hard-hitting
exploration of the dichotomous existence of two cops charged with
upholding the law, while balancing on a moral knife-edge. Compelling and
controversial, with a breakout performance of startling intensity from
leading man Anthony Wong, this raw and enticing action-thriller has
mesmerized audiences worldwide with its disturbing examination of the
subjective and marginal morality, which inhabits the uncertain and
ambiguous world of law enforcement. The graphic intensity of the final
reels underpins an unforgettable and harrowing spectacle, which has
seldom, if ever, been paralleled in Western cinema. ...Beast Cops (

MONGOL - The Rise to Power of Genghis Khan Tadanobu Asano & Honglei Sun
Historical epic that covers the early life of the legendary Mongolian
leader Genghis Khan (Tadanobu Asano). The first part of a planned
trilogy, the film focuses on the future ruler's brutal childhood, as he
suffers starvation and slavery, through to the battle that would cement
his power. Inspired by a poem translated from the Chinese that
supposedly tells of Khan's formative years, director Sergei Bodrov
('Prisoner of the Mountains') offers a multidimensional portrait of the
conqueror, focusing on the deep relationship he had with his beloved
Borte (Khulan Chuluun) who was not only his wife but his most trusted
advisor.

DRAGON - The Bruce Lee Story Jason Scott Lee & Lauren Holly
Big screen biopic based on the life of martial arts superstar Bruce Lee,
as told by his widow, Linda. Rising from obscurity on the streets of
Hong Kong, Lee (Jason Scott Lee) moves to America, takes various small
parts in films and TV shows, before eventually achieving worldwide fame
in a series of Hong Kong action pictures. However, despite his success
as the world's biggest martial arts star, mystic forces appear to be
conspiring against him in his private life.
This enjoyable and touching biography of martial-arts film star Bruce
Lee stars Jason Scott Lee (no relation), an actor with a lively face and
natural intensity, who makes every moment of this film compelling.
Directed by Rob Cohen, Dragon traces Bruce Lee's slow rise over
myriad obstacles--most of them race-based--to become an international
superstar in films. Lee's origins are oddly set in San Francisco instead
of his real home in Seattle, but then again there is plenty of artistic
license going on as Cohen explores the actor's psyche through some
powerful fantasy sequences. Lauren Holly is good as Lee's wife, Linda
(whose book about her late husband inspired this movie). A scene
involving Bruce's rescue of son Brandon (who died in a film-making
accident in 1993) from a murderous spirit is plain spooky.

KISS OF THE DRAGON Jet Li & Bridget Fonda
Liu Jian (Jet Li) is a Chinese government agent who has been sent to
France to assist in the arrest of a Chinese heroin smuggler. But when he
arrives he is framed for murder by corrupt French police detective
Jean-Pierre Richard (Tchéky Karyo) and forced to go on the run in a bid
to prove his innocence. When he meets Jessica (Bridget Fonda), a
prostitute whose daughter Isabel is being held captive by Richard, Liu
offers to get Isabel back if Jessica will help expose Richard's
corruption. Jessica agrees and much martial arts mayhem follows.
In Kiss of the Dragon, Chinese undercover agent Jet Li chops his
way through Paris after he's framed in some sketchily defined drug sting
operation. The fight sequences are tough and quite brutal, and the
over-the-top finale is arguably worth the price of admission, wherein an
implacable Li takes on the entire Paris Police Bureau, working his way
up toward police chief Tchéky Karyo's office through cops, a pair of
peroxide-blond twin henchmen, and a whole class of kung fu cadets.

AN INTRODUCTION TO HONG KONG LEGENDS
[incl. Jet Li's smash-hit movie HITMAN]
A unique, action-packed 'limited edition' showcasting nearly 3 hours of exciting, hi-octane stunts and martial-arts mayhem from the Legends of Hong Kong Cinema. Timeless extracts from the works of Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan, Jet Li, Sammo Hung & Michelle Yeoh, ensure that this premium value presentation is an invaluable introduction to the incomparable 'World of Hong Kong Cinema.
- HITMAN Jet Li & Eric Tsang
Tai Feng (Jet Li) is that rare thing; a hitman with a conscience.
Allowing his personal sense of justice to guide him, Feng never carries
out a killing he feels to be morally wrong. When his agent Sam (Eric
Tsang) collaborates with him on the theft of billions from local
mobsters, it is up to Feng to use his martial arts skills to save both
his friend and the money.
Eric the would-be assassin is such a nice, caring fellow that Hitman has an immediate credibility problem: how could Eric (oriental superstar Jet Li in his follow-up to Lethal Weapon 4)
ever believe he could be a cold-blooded murderer? The script tries to
get around this by emphasising his poverty, and once he meets conman
Norman (Hong Kong comedy star Eric Tsang), the film manages to blend
amiable humour with amoral characters and polished action into an
entertaining whole. A yakusa crime lord has been murdered by the Angel
of Death, a professional hitman who only kills those he believes deserve
to die. Getting well out of their depth in the hunt for the assassin,
Li and Tsang make an appealing double act, while Gigi Leung is charming
as Norman's lawyer daughter. With a moderately involved plot and an
emphasis on character, action is limited to five well-staged set-pieces
which are stylishly conceived, exciting and don't outstay their welcome.
The finale even has a joke at the expense of Die Hard's running across broken glass, while the ending sets up the inevitable sequel. Hitman is efficient, highly watchable Hong Kong entertainment.
