The National Geographic is known for it's fine maps & detailed information. Supplement to the National Geographic Magazine; magazine is not included.

Through history, cultures have changed through contact; whether by trade, migration, or communications. This contact was slow at first, but now the pace is explosive. The map-side of this study points to a mass-extinction of cultures and points to two factors: the vanishing of many languages and the expansion of some religions. In a world map titled “Voices of the World”, potentially vanishing languages are identified and pinpointed in color codes. The map also identifies the top 10 languages, the major religions and where they exist, the major language families and where they exist. The reverse-side contains two globes of the continents, one dated 1990 and the other 2000 showing the growth of airline traffic, television sets, telephone calls, and telecommunications in orbit – all contributing to contact between cultures.
