This limited edition original print of a jazz pianist would look great in your music room or home studio!

This hand signed and numbered artwork features a classic retro checkerboard floor and striped wallpaper.

Cool metallic silver throughout the piece contributes to the clean and sophisticated art deco and postmodern feel.

Only about 15 prints remain available.

You will be pleased with your print – it was hard to capture in the photographs how nicely the silver highlights catch the light.

The size of the print is 11”x14,” making it easy to frame using standard sized frames and matboards.

Details

This is one of a series of three musicians, which includes a saxophone player, a bass player and the Chrysler Building. I also have the sets for sale, as well as the bass player as a single. The sax player print has sold out. There are only about 15 of this print that remain available.

Millions Have a Dream is the title of the series with the individual prints titled millions have a dream. (saxophone), long live the people who aim above. (piano player) and man has to be his own saviour. (bass player).

This limited edition of 200 was printed in 1988 by offset lithography at the Thorner-Sidney Press in Buffalo, NY.

The prints are on heavy 80# Frostbrite matte white paper, chosen to accentuate the silver ink.

The mechanicals/separations were drawn by hand using traditional old school materials such as Rapidographs, X-acto's and screentones.

They are not in any way digitally rendered or printed but your will find the lines to be nearly as clean as if done on the computer. It was a goal of the artist to remove the hand of the artist by having absolute perfection in execution of the lines.

Most of the remaining prints are numbered in the fifties and seventies, specific numbers may still be available upon request. Please message to check on availability of specific numbers, the artist is happy to accommodate if possible.

Direct from the artist's studio, the prints have been stored archively, in acid free paper and are in perfect condition.

Each individual print will be hand titled, signed and numbered by the artist.

They will be packed with care.

Extra sets or single prints (see other auctions) can be included with no additional shipping charges.

Inspiration

The artist calls her style “postmodern deco pop” and is influenced by the romance and glamour of famed artists such as Erte, Giancarlo Impiglia and Tamara De Lempicka. These 1920s references are then combined with postmodernists such as Michael Graves as seen in the shapes and patterns found in the window frame, the vase and the lighting fixtures.

Her musical inspiration for the series came from the 1980s New York City/East Village club scene and artists/musicians such as John Lurie (whom is the model for the sax player in the series) and his band the Lounge Lizards (influence for the bass player in the series). The piece was conceived and sketched at a Lurie show at the famed Bottom Line nightclub in mid-September 1987.

Another musical influence on the series was Buffalo's David Kane's Them Jazzbeards (Kane is the model for the piano player for this print), a lovingly ironic beatnik themed project that would have existed in the West Village in the 1950s.

I am very impressed with the print “the killing moon will come too soon.” You are truly a wonderful artist – I can;t even describe how I feel or what I truly think about your art right now. You were sooo right when you wrote “I think you will be pleased with the print, the photos don't really show how nice the silver is, and the differerent ways it catches the light!” I am really just diggin' it to the max.” (5/18/00 email from ebay client)
