High Strength Ashwagandha Extract Powder 15:1

High strength 15:1 extract (7% Withanolides, 3% Alkaloids)

Ashwagandha extract is sourced from the Ashwagandha plant, also known as Indian ginseng, Poison gooseberry or Winter cherry. Scientifically, the plant is referred to as Withania somnifera. “Ashwagandha” means “smell of the horse” and this is due to its unique scent and ability to lead to increased body strength and endurance, similar to that of a horse. The herbal plant emits odor similar to the horse sweat. Some people also refer to the Ashwagandha root as “the king of Ayurvedic herbs” due to the different qualities it brings to the herbal world.

The earliest use of Ashwagandha can be traced back to about 3000 years ago. The shrubby plant with yellow flowers and a red fruit is native to India, the Middle East and North Africa. With time, numerous benefits of Ashwagandha plant were detected hence its present rich use. In Ayurveda the herb was classified as “Rasayana”. The latter consists of elements which help in recovery and rejuvenation of the body and overall wellbeing of the body. The ashwagandha plant is in the same family as eggplants and tomatoes i.e. Solanaceae (nightshade) family.

The herbaceous Ashwagandha plant grows to a height of between 30 and 150 cm. The roots and leaves, which are dried and ground into the extract powder, contain withanolides in different concentration. Ashwagandha leaves have a relatively bitter taste. These are steroidal lactones which are attributed to the beneficial properties of the herbal extract. However, the most beneficial part of the plant is the roots as they contain tonics and tinctures. It is the part that is dried and ground to give rise to the extract powder.
