INDIAN (MADRAS) CARICATURES

Harold Fellowes Prynne was an English artist working in Madras, India.      He was the son of George Fellowes Prynne (1853-1924) an English architect and artist who exhibited 36 works at the RA.     His uncle was Edward Fellowes Prynne RBA (1854- 1923) another English artist.
Harold worked in Madras, India in the 1920s until after partition.        He was a commercial artist producing advertisements for local firms, scenes of the area for magazines, caricatures for individuals and local tabloids such as the Madras and Southern Mahratta Railway Magazine.
His work was very high quality and he would undoubtedly have flourished in England.       
We purchased recently a folio of his work consisting partly of caricatures, but also some fine watercolours of the Madras area, and a few watercolours which he produced when he eventually returned to England after partition.      We are offering these in two series, firstly the caricatures, and then his other work.
The caricatures are within acid free mounts, the rest are mostly unmounted.     They are generally in very fine condition, though a few of the caricatures have the odd wormholes, none affecting the drawings themselves. 
This fine caricature in ink and wash is of Mr. W.H.Nicholls, Consultant Architect to the Government of Madras.   It is signed with the artists initials at bottom left
