This tile is handmade and hand painted tile float mounted on a linen covered board surrounded by, what looks like, a french pine frame. The image if of a woman holding flowers along with an ink well and parchment, a hammer, a bowl of fruit, and a window behind her. Information (in Dutch) is on the back of the peice that explains the symbolism. The theme is something like " for the true savings ...". Symbolism includes: the hammer - for leadership; the parchment and ink - for the bank; fruit bowl - may bear fruit; flowers - to great personal satisfaction.

The tile itself is not perfectly square as it is hand made. The image is carved into the clay, painted, and glazed. It measures 8 3/4" across the top, 8 5/8" across the bottom, 8 7/8” right side, and 8 3/4" left side. It is 1/4" thick at the thickest parts. The tile is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, repairs or paint loss and I cannot detect any scratches under a magnifying glass.

There is some edge wear to the frame and there is some light discoloration and damage to the linen.  A beautiful and charming Mid Century Modern tile plaque.
