Buying a belt! The terminology is often confusing, to be honest they all contain leather but it is the amount of leather used in the manufacturing process that determines how a belt is described, it also determines how a belt is priced. Leather Lined Belt or Leather and Man made Material Belt

These belts are lined with real leather at the back they have a front made from man-made materials and the middle is often filled with leather fibres. Customers are often attracted to these belts because of the price, however if they are over tightened they will damage easily. 

Full Grain Leather Belt

These are the best belts you can get; they are made by one full strip of leather, they are often stiff to start but when worn in they will soften. Excellent for all occasions formal or informal wear but especially great for jeans. These belts are often more expensive, but look at it as an investment buy one and they are built to last often lasting several times longer than some of the cheaper options.

Fashion and Formality

There are several unspoken rules for belts when it comes to belt shape and colour, especially for men wearing suits. A thinner belt is generally viewed as more formal, and a wider belt more informal. Belts for formal trousers are usually approximately 30 mm wide (1.25 inches), but not less. Less formal belts for suits can be any width up to 35 mm wide. Belts for jeans are usually between 35 mm and 38 mm wide (1.75 &1.5 inches). When wearing a suit it is also common to match the colour of the belt and shoes, not to do so is regarded as a fashion faux par.

Sizes quoted on all belts are measured from the leading edge of the buckle to the 1st and last holes (for example 32" - 36” sized belt is 32" to the first hole and 36" to the last hole.)

The best way to get your actual size is to take off a belt you wear already and measure from the inside of the buckle to where the hole is on the belt and this will give you your size.

When choosing your belt, the general rule is to add 2" to your actual trouser size to get your belt / waist size, if unsure, order the next size up as you can always make a large belt smaller by adding some more holes if needed.
