This photograph is printed on metallic paper, giving it a very crisp,
detailed, vibrant and reflective aesthetic. It is stunning and has an
almost surreal quality to it.
Background information on Brian Blackwelder: All the Brian
Blackwelder photographs that I have listed on eBay at this time came from a
County Coroners Estate Auction. I could not find a lot of information about
Brian Blackwelder, but a couple of officers at the coroner’s auction
told me that he was admitted into hospice care and passed away
approximately January 2019.
Brian Blackwelder lived in the Palm Springs area. It appears that his
business was named First*Light, but I also noticed several of his prints
mentioned Luma Photo as his business name, so I
surmised that his studio was named First*Light and his
online website was Luma Photos, however I could be incorrect in that assumption.
Sadly, the auction did not have his negatives, and I believe they were probably
trashed, given that the officers that usually collect the estates would
probably view negatives as having no value, and because there were no negatives
available for purchase at this auction.
At the auction they grouped all his photographs, over 300, into one lot and I
purchased them all. This was all that was available of Brian Blackwelder’s work
at the auction and I believe this is the sum of his work because I have not
been able to find any of his work for sell elsewhere online. I will be
putting all his work on eBay over a period of a month. I will have roughly 200
lots. As I was looking through each size of photo that he created most of his
work he only created one in each size. There are a few that he created two or
three, but most are a singular creation in that size. Brian Blackwelder’s work
is outstanding, and he obviously was a professional and had a great eye.
Each piece is hand signed at least once. The smaller, and fiber board,
photographs are hand signed on a label on the back, and the larger matted
photographs are hand signed on the front as well as on a label on the back. At
first, I thought these back labels were just printed copies of his signature,
but each is a little different from each other and he personally hand signed
each one.
It saddened me to know that back in September 2018 Brian Blackwelder had
planned to have a showing of his works called “Night Visions: Landscapes of the
West at Night” in Palm Springs, but he had to cancel due to his illness.
Here is your opportunity to own and enjoy one or more of his works. There
will never be anymore. May Brian rest in peace.
