The painting is unframed and quite large at ~86 x 40 cm

This is an original African batik painting. Each piece is a unique hand made one off creation of this beautiful art form. Such art works commonly depict scenes of traditional African village life, customs and practices, native wild life, scenic vistas, and mythical figures, et cetera.

Batik is a technique of wax-resist dyeing applied to selected areas of the cloth. The applied wax resists dyes and therefore allows the artisan to colour images selectively by soaking the un-waxed areas of the cloth in one colour, removing the wax with boiling water, then repeating the process to apply the next colour.  Ordinarily, the fabric used is medium to heavy grade cotton canvas, with the edges being hand cut.

Each painting can be mounted into a frame. Alternatively, they can be made into a simple wall hanging by fixing a dowel rod or wooden spar to the canvas at the top and bottom, and then adding a hanging cord. Any creases in the material can be easily ironed out smooth using a warm 'cotton' temperature.
