Here is a rare, big Batak buffalo horn and wood medicine container.

This medicine container was used by the Shaman of the Batak people. The Batak, the Toraja, and Dayaks are considered as missing link connecting the ancient Aboriginies of Taiwan, to the greater proto- Malayan cultures of Southeast Asia and some of the Pacific Rim.

Both horn container and hardwood stopper are adorned with mythical creatures.

This container comes from a very old Dutch collector, who brought his collection to Israel.

There are heavy signs of wear and age on the horn. The heavy, beautifully carved wood stopper is in a good condition, though it seems that a chip was set back in place.

There are numerous copies of such items made these days, but very few real specimens, are out of museums and on the open market.
