George McManus Bringing Up Father Daily Comic Strip Original Art dated 8-30-52 (King Features Syndicate, 1952). An unusual entry in the long-running funnypapers classic, in which McManus devotes each panel to a reminiscent flashback about various eccentric personalities while the leading character Jiggs (off-camera) narrates in a sarcastic tone. Beautifully illustrated in a fine, old-fashioned pen line. A late-in-life effort from McManus, who had drawn the strip since 1913, and seldom entrusted the main art to any assistant. Rendered in ink and Zipatone over graphite on Bristol board with an image area of 18" x 5". The slightly toned board has text correction paste-ups in the first panel, discolored Zipatone, with production tape residue on the right edge and handling wear. In Very Good condition.
