The casebook of a Legendary Broadway dancer, Hollywood tough guy, gambler and Don Juan with life long underworld involvement. Hollywood's toughest rough guy has never pulled a punch since he was born George Ranft in New York's Hell's Kitchen on September 24, 1895.  As a teenage, rough and tumble, professional boxer, he discovered that he would never be a champ at Madison Square Garden and drifted into a new career, as a dancehall gigolo.  He roared along with the 1920s moving up into the swanker world of New York speakeasies and London clubs.  In New York he appeared in several Broadway musical revues, but all along he retained his associations with the colorful underworld pals of his youth, particularly bigtime liquor racketeer Owney Maddon.

A sensation performance as the coin-spinning gangster in Scarface 1932 prompted Paramount Pictures to give Raft a long term contract in hopes of promoting him as the new Valentino.  Later Warner Bros added the star to their stable of cinema tough guys that included James Cagney, Edward G. Robinson and Humphrey Bogart.
