DESCRIZIONE
Il Solanum Chrysotrichum è una pianta perenne che fa parte della famiglia delle Solanaceae, la stessa dei pomodori, melanzane e delle patate; per questo viene utilizzato come portainnesto di quest’ultime.
Originario dell'America Centrale il "Fico del diavolo gigante" si è adattato in altri continenti come l'Europa, Africa e Australia.
Il Chrysotrichum cresce velocemente fino a 4 metri di altezza, soprattutto se posto in piena terra, presentandosi quindi come un arbusto (o piccolo albero) eretto con steli e foglie ricoperti di peli e spine.
Le foglie, profondamente lobate, sono molto grandi (fino a 30cm di lunghezza); i fiori bianchi a forma di stella si presentato in grappoli ramificati.
I frutti sono palline di 10-15mm che diventano gialli a maturazione.

L’innesto potrà essere effettuato già durante il primo anno di vita della pianta vista la crescita rapida, o al massimo il secondo anno.  Il Chrysotrichum è un portainnesto ideale soprattutto per le melanzane.
Le piante innestate sul Chrysotrichum risulteranno più vigorose (notevole sviluppo vegetativo) e immuni ad alcune malattie (soprattutto quelle che colpiscono l'apparato radicale).

DESCRIPTION
Solanum Chrysotrichum is a perennial plant that belongs to the Solanaceae family, the same as tomatoes, aubergines and potatoes; for this it is used as a rootstock of the latter.
Originally from Central America the "Giant Devil's Fig" has adapted to other continents such as Europe, Africa and Australia.
The Chrysotrichum grows quickly up to 4 meters in height, especially if placed in the ground, therefore presenting itself as an erect shrub (or small tree) with stems and leaves covered with hair and thorns.
The deeply lobed leaves are very large (up to 30cm in length); the white star-shaped flowers presented in branched clusters. The fruits are 10-15mm balls that turn yellow when ripe.
The grafting can be done already during the first year of plant life given the rapid growth, or at most the second year. Chrysotrichum is an ideal rootstock especially for eggplants.
Plants grafted on Chrysotrichum will be more vigorous (remarkable vegetative development) and immune to some diseases (especially those affecting the root system).
We would like to emphasize that, as indicated in the title and in the description, this is the Solanum Chrysotrichum and not the Solanum Torvum, even if it concerns two species of similar plants (including the other used as a container) but with some of them: but some: unlike the torvum solanum chrysotrichum shows a much more vigorous growth, has larger leaves and flowers and is usually completely covered with thorns and reddish hairs.
