There was a bit of a thing around 1980 with the West German government backing the Auto 2000 programme. It was a challenge to develop the motorcar of the future, and Mercedes, Audi, VW, and Universities taking part. On this German film magazine there is a short article on this showing the resulting cars. It is not long (about 2 minutes and in German as is the whole film), but quite an interesting bit of footage. The film runs for 14 minutes, and contains other articles about sports, the arts, and so on.
