Keeping horses myself and finding it very hard to find a suitable lid, that would stay on and protect the morning or evening feed from small rodents dirt dust etc. I came up with this wooden version. Made from good quality 1/2 inch exterior ply. Tapered to fit snugly into the feeder below the rim, making it more like a bung or plug rather than a lid.
