DATE PRINTED: 1842 or shortly afterwards.

SIZE: The printed area including titles is approximately 18.5 x 15 cm (7.25 x 6 inches) plus margins with a blank back (medium).   

ARTIST/CARTOGRAPHER/ENGRAVER: Engraved by James Baylis Allen (1803–1876) after a picture by William Henry Bartlett (March 26, 1809 – September 13, 1854). The well known artist William Henry Bartlett produced many pictures used for engravings and died of fever on board of a French ship off the coast of Malta returning from his last trip to the Near East, in 1854.

PROVENANCE: Produced for "The Scenery and Antiquities of Ireland with illustrations by W.H. Bartlett.", engraved by various artists including Brandard, Cousen etc.   Published in London by Virtue, 1840-1842.

TYPE: Antique steel engraving printed on paper.

VERSO: There is nothing printed on the reverse side, which is blank.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:  Bantry Bay (Irish: Cuan Baoi / Inbhear na mBárc / Bádh Bheanntraighe) is a bay located in County Cork, Ireland. The bay runs approximately 35 km (22 mi) from northeast to southwest into the Atlantic Ocean. It is approximately 3-to-4 km (1.8-to-2.5 miles) wide at the head and 10 km (6.2 mi) wide at the entrance.  Sugarloaf Mountain (Irish: Gabhal Mhór, meaning 'big fork') is a mountain south-west of Glengarriff in County Cork, Ireland.
