A wonderful vintage Gieves Ltd steel foot locker once owned by C Nixon of the Royal Navy.

Gieves Ltd date back to 1785 as Gieves Matthews Seagrave. They supplied Military uniforms and items. The name changed after WW1 to Gieves Ltd. Ledgers show customers included Charlie Chaplin, J P Morgan, Sir Oswald Mosley, David Niven, Laurence Olivier and Winston Churchill among others.

This metal trunk has a Royal Appointment brass crest and the passenger C Nixon travelled  First Class according to one label. There was a famous C Nixon submariner who died in 1981, this trunk and its labels look to date to the 1950s perhaps earlier.

Various labels and painted letters indicate RMS Leicester, Cabin Must Go, Cabin First Class Ticket number 41 etc. Painted to lid is C Nixon V.A.D  R.N. This could indicate the owner was part of a Voluntary Aid Detachment  at some point which was prevalent in WW1 and WW2.

It measures 41 inches long, 14.5 wide and 11 tall.

In sound condition with expected wear. Some dents and knocks etc.

Unique and interesting piece, good luck.
