Ulloa Ottoman TURKS Italian Venice Crusades
Alfonso de Ulloa was a 16th-century Spanish historian
best-known for his service to Charles V, King of Spain. Having moved to Venice
to study, Ulloa worked in the embassy of Charles V where he gained knowledge on
the Holy Roman Emperor. In 1560, he published the first biography of Charles V,
a work which staunchly defended the emperor against Turkish invaders and the
spread of the Protestant Reformation.
This work is exceedingly rare – there are no known copies in any institution in the western
hemisphere! (USTC)
