- This book draws on the experience of an
international group of paediatric epidemiologists, all of whom are world
authorities in their field. In a consistent format they discuss
biological considerations, patterns of occurrence, risk factors and the
impact of interventions for each type of disorder. The disorders
reviewed include not only the traditional morbidity of childhood such as
infections, birth defects, asthma, and cerebral palsy, but also the new
morbidity: emotional problems, intentional and n-intentional injuries,
and suicide. This book will have wide appeal to health professionals at
every level as it draws on personal experience combining paediatrics and
epidemiology.

- Readers may welcome some explanation why our three authors reversed the
sequence of events by tackling the problems of beyond the best interest
of the child.
- Earlier than in 1973, the difficulties and mistakes
surrounding children placement loomed so large and clamored
so insistently for solution that the questions what and for what
reasons these children find themselves at he mercy of state disposition
were pushed into the background.
- Joseph Goldstein has been leading insight and loving-kindness meditation
retreats worldwide since 1974. He is a co-founder of the Insight
Meditation Society (IMS) in Massachusetts, where he continues as one of
the resident guiding teachers. In 1989, together with several other
teachers and students, he established the Barre Center for Buddhist
Studies and, later, The Forest Refuge. A seminal figure in the emergence
of Buddhism in the West, Joseph is the author of numerous books
including One Dharma. He lives in Barre, Massachusetts.
