Description

A rare gold-plated bronze medal / plaque given at the 1900 Paris Exposition Universelle, which incorporated the Second Modern Olympiad. I would say that it was in extremely fine (EF) condition or thereabouts. Please take a good look at my photographs and form your own opinion of its grade. There is no case.

Made from Gold-plated bronze, Dimensions 42 mm x 59 mm, Thickness 3 mm, Weight 71.7 grams, Designed by Frédéric Vernon, one of the foremost medallists of the time.

The obverse features a victorious athlete on a podium inside a crowded stadium, holding aloft a laurel branch. The Acropolis is in the background. The reverse has another laurel branch and the French legend "EDUCATION PHYSIQUE / OFFERT / PAR LE / MINISTRE".

This is one of several varieties of this medal. It is also one of the medals which collectors of Olympic Participation Medals collect in the absence of an official OPM for the first Paris Games (besides medals by Roty and Chaplain). These were the only Olympics not to issue a participation medal specifically for athletes and officials at the Games.

Shipping is by tracked mail (Royal Mail International Signed-For, or Special Delivery in the UK). All my medals are guaranteed genuine. Please see also my Olympic Participation and other sports Medals in my eBay shop. If you purchase more than one of these you only need to pay the shipping costs for a single medal.

We aim to dispatch within one working day of receiving your payment. Please check out my feedback ratings or contact me if you have any doubts.
