ROBIN MALONE
ORIGINAL DAILY STRIP ART
November 13, 1969
By Bob Lubbers
The ROBIN MALONE comic strip was syndicated for a three year period by the Newspaper Enterprise Association (NEA) from March 19, 1967 through March 11, 1970. The strip followed the adventures of the newly widowed heroine as she manages the corporate empire inherited from her late husband. The themes fluctuated from soap opera, high drama, industrial and political intrigue, satire and broad farce based on the ever changing whims of the syndicate. Lubbers modeled Robin after one of his favorite movie stars, the glamorous Joan Fontaine. This strip is among Lubber's best work and allowed him to hone the skills he developed on earlier strips like The Saint, Big Ben Bolt, Rusty Riley, Long Sam, Tarzan, Secret Agent X-9 and Li'l Abner.
The art offered in this listing is the daily strip for Thursday, November 13, 1969 of ROBIN MALONE. This storyline is one of the final tales in ROBIN's run, as she attempts to intercede on the behalf of one of the Malone Enterprises test pilot. In this strip, Robin attempts to console the pilot's worried wife and son.
This art is produced in ink over graphite on duotone board and measures 17 ½ x 4 ⅝ Inches. There is darkening and toning to the entire strip which is not apparent in the photographs. In the photos, the strip appears to be very white when it is actually tanned. The title is affixed to the first panel. There is a touch-up with Wite-Out here and there. Lubbers worked with a lightbox and the reverse of this art features his rough sketches for this piece. It is in Good Condition, priced accordingly, and is dated and signed by Lubbers.
