Antique 1895 Victorian Watercolour Painting Man Smoking Portrait by R. Monson

On offer is an original Victorian watercolour painting of young gent smoking a pipe by Rachel Mary Eliza Monson. It dates to 1895 and has been skilfully executed. This was from the Rachel Kinnear studio collection and is by the hand of her niece (the daughter of Rachel Kinnear's sister Anne who married into the aristocratic Monson family of Lincolnshire). Anne, her husband and their children (including the artist of this painting) lived at Burton Vicarage and his families seat was at Burton Hall in Lincolnshire. Rachel & Anne Kinnear were born into a family of artists and their father, James Balfour Kinnear, was a major Victorian artist. Some general signs of wear and ageing to the paper including a torn corner but overall it is well preserved. An excellent example of it's type. Once framed, it would make a superb decorative piece, signed and dated by the artist and with a strong provenance linking it to the Kinnear and Monson families. The subject of the painting is likely to be a member of the Monson family of Lincolnshire.

Overall, it measures approx 36cm x 25.5cm.

The painting is presented on an easel in the photos - the easel is not included in the sale.
