This small, simple package is surprisingly delightful. The box includes a book explaining how Jorn Uzton overcame the design dilemma of creating his extraordinary structure in a manner that allowed mass-prefabrication of sections and tiles. In 1957 the Danish architect, son of a naval architect, won an international design competition for the harbourside halls with sketches of interlocking sails or shells. Working near his home at Hellebaek in Denmark with engineer Ove Arup, Utzon finally resolved the prefabrication challenge as he packed up models in his office in September 1961. The solution was to cut each shell as if from the same sphere. The Key To The Shells includes four miniature magnetised shells packed under a spherical dome. The shells unpack to stick on a silver reflective base as a mini Opera House.
