On offer: an original (i.e. not a later reproduction) antique map "Northamptonsh.". A rare, attractive and unusual 19th Century map. Offered with the original page of text which accompanies the map and described the county.

DATE PRINTED: 1845.  This is the date generally quoted for this publication although I have seen copies with manuscript dates of 1843 and 1844 - so possible a little earlier.

SIZE: The printed area including titles of each sheet is approximately 16 x 20 cm, 6 x 7.75 inches (medium) plus margins

ARTIST/CARTOGRAPHER/ENGRAVER: The maps were originally engraved by Thomas Crabb in 1819 and published as an extremely rare set of cards.  In 1821 they appeared in "Miller's New Miniature Atlas ..." .  They were then published in 1822 by William Darton in his "New Miniature Atlas".   In c.1845 a lithographed series of 40 maps with decorative views added around the original maps was produced by Reuben Ramble.  Reuben Ramble was a pseudonym for the Rev. Samuel Clark, Rector of Eaton-Bishop who published under the name Sam Clark.

PROVENANCE: Published in 'Reuben Ramble's Travels through the Counties of England' .'Reuben Ramble' was in fact the pseudonym of the Reverend Samuel Clark who produced this work to help educate children in national and local geography. Each county is represented by a small but detailed map surrounded with various topographical images which represent the county. These maps were produced as a children's educational book, so few examples have survived in tact!

TYPE: Antique lithograph with original hand colour.

VERSO: There is nothing printed on the reverse side, which is blank.

CONDITION: Very good. Suitable for framing. Please check the scan for any blemishes prior to making your purchase. Virtually all antiquarian maps and prints are subject to some normal aging due to use and time which is not significant unless otherwise stated.

AUTHENTICITY: This is an authentic antique print, published at the date stated above. I do not offer reproductions. It is not a modern copy. The term 'original' when applied to a print means that it was printed at the first or original date of publication; it does not imply that the item is unique.

RETURNS POLICY: I offer a no questions returns policy. All I ask is that you pay return shipping and mail back to me in original condition.
