About YÜRÜK/YÖRÜK RUGS

Reference: Wikipedia

A Yürük rug is a traditional tribal rug woven in Anatolia by the Yörüks, a Turkish ethnic subgroup. Yürük rugs have a long shaggy pile, tied with Ghiordes knots. The warp and the filler (the weft between the knots) is generally composed of sheep's wool or goat hair. The rugs have large geometric motifs in bright colors on a dark brown background; the colors are often described as 'brilliant'. The sides of the rugs are either salvaged, frequently with goat hair, or overcast with colored yarn, and the ends have a braided fringe.

The design of  Yürük rugs resembles rugs of the Kazak region more than Anatolia. The use of a latch hook is also shared with Kazak rugs. Yürük rugs tend to be more loosely woven than other rugs from Anatolia in that there are more rows of filler between the knots.

According to Encyclopedia Britannica, there is a distinction between Yürük rugs from eastern and western Anatolia. The rugs from western Anatolia traditionally have diagonal patterns in brick red and dark blue, and highlights in ivory. Eastern Anatolian Yürük rugs have hexagonal and lozenge patterns with offset knots that produce diagonal, rather than vertical, rows.

ABOUT YORUK  NOMADIC  TRIBES:

( Reference: Wikipedia )

Historians and ethnologists often use the additional appellative 'Yörük Turcoman' or 'Turkmens' to describe the Yörüks of Anatolia. In Turkey's general parlance today, the terms "Türkmen" and "Yörük" indicate the gradual degrees of preserved attachment with the former semi-nomadic lifestyle of the populations concerned, with the "Turkmen" now leading a fully sedentary life, while keeping parts of their heritage through folklore and traditions, in arts like carpet-weaving, with the continued habit of keeping a yayla house for the summers, sometimes in relation to the Alevi community etc. and with Yörüks maintaining a yet stronger association with nomadism. These names ultimately hint to their Oghuz Turkish roots. The remaining "true" Yörüks of today's Anatolia traditionally use horses as a means of transportation, though these are steadily being replaced by trucks.
