National Geographic, New York City DestinationMap

Durable waterproof map and guide especially for tourists, focusing on lower Manhattan.  On one side is a street map of lower Manhattan, from Mt. Sinai Hospital around East 98th street south to Battery Park.  Landmark buildings (such as museums and the Empire State Building) are drawn in detailed isometric view, making it easier to recognize them.   Also locates information centers, subway stops, parking lots, post offices, police stations, hospitals, points of interest, theaters, hotels, churches, synagogues, notable buildings, rail stations, parks, and more.  An inset shows the major streets of the same area, with the names of the neighborhoods.  An index helps you locate the streets on the main map.

On the reverse is a regional road map showing the major highways of the entire New York metropolitan region, another showing Lower Manhattan in greater detail than shown on the main map; a third shows MIdtown Manhattan in great detail (in addition to the features found on the main map, it also puts names by the theatres located).  Yet another small map on this side shows the lower Manhattan subway system.  The basic plans of Newark, La Guardia, and J.F. Kennedy airports are diagrammed, too.  The remainder of the reverse side is packed with information on what to see and how to get around.

Scale of main map, 1:16,500 (1 inch = about 1/4 mile).  Size: about 18 x 24½ inches.  Folded.  Plastic.
