Why are mealworms a good bird food source?
Mealworms are a rich source of protein (over 50%), fibre and fats that are key for muscle development in birds.
Though high in protein they are low in calcium and should not be the only food you leave out in your garden.
Any insectivorous (soft billed) bird will love mealworms. The majority of passerines (perching birds) will enjoy them too, especially when they are feeding their young & the protein is essential for their growth.

Please note that this bag is not resealable and so we advise to store the mealworms in an airtight container to maximise freshness (we hope to change 2lb bags to resealable bags in the near future). Remember that the bigger the pack of dried mealworms you purchase the cheaper the price per lb. becomes

What birds eat mealworms?
Birds you will likely find enjoying them in your garden include;
Blue and great titz, House Sparrows, Blackbirds, Robins, Starlings, Thrushes and any other birds may indulge too.
Mealworms & water
We suggest hydrating Chubby dried mealworms in the spring to soften them up and add moisture.
15 - 20 minutes in container of cold water will be enough hydrate the worms.
When should I offer Mealworms?
Mealworms can and will be enjoyed all year round however, winter is the hardest time of year for all our wildlife.
