1692 1ed Sappho & Anacreon Classical GREEK Erotic Poetry Longepierre French

A rare, late 17th-century printing of the poetry of ancient Greek writers Sappho and Anacreon.

Known for her lyric poetry written on the island of Lesbos, Sappho has few surviving works which were thought to be written to be sung. Similarly, the works of 5th-century BC poet Anacreon were notable ancient songs. This collection of erotic poems was edited and translated by Hilaire-Bernard Longepierre who included a ‘life of Sappho’ in this 1692 edition.
