You've found quite an unusual item here. It is a custom-made bassoon reed knife, left-handed. This is my first attempt at making a knife from scratch. It was intended to be for my own use, but I screwed up and ground it backwards, so it came out left-handed. The blade itself is A2 tool steel, heat-treated and hardened. It was roughed out on a belt sander, but all the finish work was done by hand. It's not perfect, but my teacher and I think it came out quite nicely. It is razor sharp, and should hold its edge for a long time.
I added a brass thumb rest, made on my CNC mill, which I feel helps to control the shaving action. I also turned the handle myself, which is black walnut with a nice satin wax finish, on my lathe. To complete the package, I tried my hand at leather working to make a custom-fit sheath, hand stitched, with an oil finish.

Since I can't really use the knife, I'm offering it for sale at auction, with bidding starting at only $50. This is a steal, as it barely covers the cost of materials for this one-of-a-kind tool, let alone the time and labor put into its creation. I'm happy to answer any questions.
