    What dose the turn signal switch do?
    The turn signal switch performs several functions, both electrical, and mechanical, while indicating a vehicle turn. Electrically, it signals the turn signal flasher to flash either the right or left turn lights, both front and rear. Mechanically, it maintains the turn signal flasher function until the steering wheel is reversed from the turn direction selected. For example, if a left turn signal is selected, the turn signal switch will maintain a flashing left turn signal until the steering wheel is turned a certain amount counterclockwise (for a left turn), then turned clockwise back to a straight-ahead, or centered position. The same is true for a right turn. The flashing turn signal is then “cancelled”

     

    Symptoms of a Bad or Failing Turn Signal Switch

    • Brake lights are not working.
    • Unable to change from high to low beam and back.
    • Difficulty in Left or right indicator light.

     

    Turn Signal Switch Replacement

    • Open the hood for access to the battery. Disconnect the battery's positive and negative terminals.
    • Remove the steering wheel shroud assembly.
    • Twist the turn signal lever forward and pull it out. Put it in a safe place for later installation.
    • Disconnect the wiring harness from the back of the switch. Unscrew the two screws holding the switch in place. The multi-switch is ready to be removed.
    • Screw the new switch to the steering column with a screwdriver.
    • Plug the wiring harness into the switch.
    • Attach the lever to the switch. Push the lever into the switch and twist toward the front of the vehicle.
    • Cap the steering column with the shroud covers.
    • Reconnect the battery by installing the battery terminals. Test the multi-switch by checking each function to ensure it is installed correctly.

    What dose the turn signal switch do?
