ROBERT SARGENT AUSTIN RE RWS RA

'Spring Lambs',

Signed 1946 engraving, printed on fine Japon paper

When the Royal Society of Art, where Austin taught, were evacuated to the heavy farming community in the North of England during the war, this is where he accomplished this small gentle, sweet picture. The War just over, life was to start again.

As winner of the Rome Scholarship for engraving in 1922, R.S. Austin became one of the leading exponents of the reintroduction of original line engraving to England during the mid to late 1920’s.
