1948 Bowman Football - # 18 Vince Banonis, C, Chicago Cardinals

There are 108 cards in the 1948 Bowman Football set. The set was printed in 36-card sheets, and the third sheet contained all of the cards with numbers divisible by three (cards no. 3, 6, 9, etc.). All of these cards are considered short prints, making a full third of the set more difficult to obtain than the rest. The set contains 10 future members of the Hall of Fame.  Starting with Sammy Baugh, the other Hall of Fame rookie cards are Steve Van Buren (#7), Charley Trippi (#17), Bob Waterfield (#26), Clyde "Bulldog" Turner (#36), Alex Wojciechowicz (#61), Pete Pihos (#63), Bill Dudley (#80), George McAfee (#95) and Sid Luckman (#107). The set also contains the rookie cards of three Heisman Trophy Winners (John Lujack (1947 - #3), Les Horvath (1944 - #71) and Bruce Smith (1941 - #104).  As would be expected, the first and last cards in the set are difficult to find in high grade, although the last card, Buford Ray #108, is much more difficult to locate than Joe Tereshinski #1.  The 1948 Bowman Football cards are known for having centering issues, which makes top-condition cards tough to locate. In addition, the white borders of the cards leave them prone to yellowing from age and susceptible to staining.
