A very rare early 19thc. Minton 2nd porcelain period dessert plate 1824.

A very attractive Minton plate. Imari style transfer decoration, enriched by enamelled overlay, of flowers and basket. Heavily moulded border decoration

Minton ceased making Porcelain during the period 1816-23. Porcelain production recommenced in 1824. This plate bears pattern number 53, showing that it was one of the very first patterns to be utilised following the decision to start making porcelain once more. The shape remained in production for very many years. See the photo from “antique porcelain online.com”, which shows a plate of identical pattern, but different shape, made 6 years later. See also the extract from the “Encyclopaedia of British Porcelain Manufacturers, by Geoffrey Godden.

Dealer’s sticker attached to the reverse.

Note that we are selling other Minton plates in this shape (but, again, with different patterns, bearing numbers 5, 6, 517 and 519 (in those cases a slightly different shape and pattern), together with some unmarked examples)

Condition

Excellent. No significant defects. Wonderfully bright white porcelain. Enamelling in good condition.. No cracks, crazing, hairlines or restoration. Minor kiln dust visible at the edges of the plate.

Dimensions
