SILVER-PLATE COPPER REPOUSSE CIGARETTE BOX

RARE

FEATURES REPOUSSE PRESSED DESIGNS ON THE LID & AROUND THE SIDES OF THE BOX

WITH HINGED LID

Elizur G. Webster & Son founded the EGW&S Company in 1886, after about 26 years of working in the silver-plating business on Broadway, in New York City. His business specialized in the manufacturing of silver-plated products. In this design, as can be seen from the box's interior, the method of hammering from the inside onto the design mold, (on the exterior sides), created the embossed appearance, or repousse.

This cigarette box is in incredibly good condition considering its age. We estimate its construction somewhere around the early 1900s. It is in virtually pristine condition with the exception of some light tinting on the finish & and the lid is showing cracking near the hinge area. Otherwise, this box is in beautiful condition.
