Glenn Herbert Gould (* 25. September 1932 in Toronto, Ontario, Kanada; † 4. Oktober 1982 ebenda) war ein kanadischer Pianist, Komponist, Organist und Musikautor. Er ist vor allem für seine Bach-Aufnahmen bekannt.

Den internationalen Durchbruch schaffte er 1955 mit seinem USA-Debüt in New York. Am nächsten Tag lud ihn ein Produzent des Labels Columbia Records zu einer Schallplattenaufnahme in sein Studio ein. Es entstand die berühmte erste Studio-Aufnahme von Johann Sebastian Bachs Goldberg-Variationen (ein bereits 1954 von der kanadischen Rundfunkgesellschaft CBC aufgenommener Live-Mitschnitt des Werks wurde erst Jahrzehnte später auf CD veröffentlicht). Gould blieb dem Label bis an sein Lebensende treu. Zwischen 1955 und 1964 konzertierte Gould ausgiebig in Nordamerika und Europa. 1957 trat er zwei Wochen lang in der Sowjetunion auf, wo ihn der Enthusiasmus seiner Zuhörer tief bewegte.

Glenn Herbert Gould (born September 25, 1932 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada; † October 4, 1982 ibid) was a Canadian pianist, composer, organist and music author. He is best known for his Bach recordings.

His international breakthrough came in 1955 with his US debut in New York. The next day, a producer from Columbia Records invited him to a record recording in his studio. The result was the famous first studio recording of Johann Sebastian Bach's Goldberg Variations (a live recording of the work recorded in 1954 by the Canadian broadcasting company CBC was only released on CD decades later). Gould stayed with the label for the rest of his life. Between 1955 and 1964 Gould performed extensively in North America and Europe. In 1957 he performed for two weeks in the Soviet Union, where he was deeply moved by the enthusiasm of his audience.
