You are bidding on a rare and collectible set of antique hardcover books titled The Lives of the Poets of Great Britain and Ireland, to the Time of Dean Swift. Compiled from ample Materials scattered in a Variety of Books, and especially from the MS. notes of late ingenious Mr. Coxeter and others, collected for this Design. 

By Mr. Cibber ( Theophilus Cibber (25 or 26 November 1703, Ð October 1758) was an English actor, playwright, author, and son of the actor-manager Colley Cibber. Although credited to "Mr. Cibber" on the title page, the authorship of this work has been disputed by Samuel Johnson who claimed that it was written by Robert Shiels.

Printed in London for R. Griffiths, at the Dunciad in St. Paul's Church-Yard, 1753. This is the very scarce and collectible First Edition. 

According to the title page, the set is complete in four volumes, however, it appears that when the set was rebound, it was made into five volumes. Never the less, you are bidding on the complete set.

Books feature green cloth binding with gold lettering on spines. Covers remain firmly attached with no cracking or splitting of hinges. Pages are clean and tightly bound. Outside edges of pages have swirling design. Previous owner name written on title pages. Books remain in very good condition.

Would make a nice addition to a collection.
