You are bidding on a rare set of antique hardcover books titled  Memorials of Thomas Hood. Selected, Arranged and Edited by His Daughter, with a Preface and Notes by His Son. Illustrated with Copies From His Own Sketches. Published in London by Edward Moxon & Co., 1860. This is the scarce and collectible First Edition. The set is complete in two volumes and you are bidding on both volumes. It is a matching set.

The first full-dress account of Hood, in the form of an autobiography fashioned out of his papers by his children, Thomas Hood Jr. and Frances Freeling Broderip. Included are many important letters, details of his publications, uncollected poems, etc., as well as information on his relationships with other writers of the period, including Dickens. With a frontispiece in each volume (one a folding facsimile plate).

Books are quarter-bound in polished leather with leather tips. Covers firmly attached with no cracking or splitting of hinges. The spines have raised bands with gold lettering on red morocco labels. There are gold designs in the spine compartments. The volume numbers on the spines probably were once on leather labels. Pages are clean and tightly bound. Has decorative endpages. Top edge of pages has gilt edge. No writing in books and no signs of previous ownership. The set shows some corner/edge wear and some overall gentle wear and remains in very good condition.

Great gift idea!
