You are bidding on a super rare antique hardcover book titled Memoirs of the Most Material Transactions in England for the Last Hundred Years, Preceeding the Revolution in 1688. By James Welwood, M.D., Fellow of the College of Physicians, London. A New Edition, Corrected. With a Complete Index. Printed in Glasgow by John McCallum and Sold by the Booksellers, 1749.

Imagine, this book is from 1749 and is 267 years old!!!

Dr. James Welwood (or Wellwood) (1652-1727) was an English physician, who studied in Glasgow and later in the Netherlands. He came back to England with William and Mary as Royal physician. This is his history of the reign of Charles I, the Civil War, Charles II and the Glorious Revolution.

Condition / Notes: This antique volume is bound in half leather over marbled paper-covered boards, with stamped gilt lettering to the spine. This former library book shows moderate external wear, with mild rubbing and light soiling to the covers. An antique paper label appears on the spine. The binding is sound and solid. The covers are firmly attached with no cracking or splitting of hinges. All pages are tightly bound. This volume has matching marbled endpapers. The antique bookplate of the public library of the city of Dover is affixed to the front pastedown, with the more recent bookplate of the Bibliotheque Schorsch on the front flyleaf. Remnants of a removed library attachment are visible on the rear pastedown. Annotations in ink are present on the blank preliminary pages, with a signature and the date of 1753 at the top of one such preliminary. The pages exhibit light foxing, with heavier spotting and faint moisture markings at the front and rear of the text block.

Considering the book's age and condition, I rate this book as being in very good condition.

A very rare antiquarian book!

Would make a super addition to a collection.

Great gift idea!
