-Kien Hoa Province was established on October 22, 1956, according to Decree No. 143-NV of the President of the Republic of Vietnam Ngo Dinh Diem to "change the boundary and name of Do to Saigon - Cho Lon and the provinces and provincial capital in Vietnam". The boundaries and names of the provinces in the South changed a lot, and some new provinces were established. According to this Decree, the territory of Southern Vietnam of the Republic of Vietnam includes the capital city of Saigon and 22 provinces. At this time, Kien Hoa province was established by changing from the previous name of Ben Tre province; and the provincial capital was also renamed "Truc Giang", administratively belonging to An Hoi commune, Truc Giang district. The first provincial governor was Tran Ngoc Chau (1956-1957), then Le Nhu Hung (1957-1958).
