We've all
seen electroluminescent (EL) wire-- its 360-degree glow is amazing, but its
power requirements and flexibility aren't. To solve this problem and give you unlimited
opportunities to realize all of your TRON-like fantasies for model-building, we
present our 300mm flexible LED filament.
These
filaments are truly amazing. Operating
on 3V DC, there are hundreds of microscopic LED lights inside the rubberized, flexible
outer shell. Power connections are on
both ends (one end is positive and the other is negative).
- WHAT’S
INCLUDED: Each pack includes five filaments of the selected color.
- POWER: These
operate on just 3V DC, with a forward voltage drop for all colors of
approximately 2.56v, but because of all the LEDs inside, each filament consumes
approximately 120mA of power, so we don't recommend coin cell batteries for
power (you *can* run them with coin cells, of course, but your batteries will
run out very quickly). Nor do we
recommend driving them directly from a microcontroller without the use of a
high-current driver like a MOSFET.
- Please note,
these are a DIY product, so you’ll have to solder your own connecting
wires. If you’re using more than 3 volts
as a power source, you’ll also have to add resistors or use a voltage
regulator.
- Looking for
filament longer than 300mm? You can
solder sections end-to-end (though you’ll need to increase your supply power by
3V for each segment that is daisy-chained).
(PLEASE NOTE: Due to
the difference between different monitors, the picture may not reflect the
actual color of the item. Thank you!)
