SIZE: The printed view, including titles, is approximately 23 x 17.5 cm, 9 x 7 inches (medium) plus wide margins.

ARTIST/CARTOGRAPHER/ENGRAVER: Engraved by Louis Marvy (1815-1850) from an original study by John Constable.  John Constable RA (11 June 1776 – 31 March 1837) was an English landscape painter in the Romantic tradition. Born in Suffolk, he is known principally for revolutionising the genre of landscape painting with his pictures of Dedham Vale, the area surrounding his home – now known as "Constable Country" – which he invested with an intensity of affection. "I should paint my own places best", he wrote to his friend John Fisher in 1821, "painting is but another word for feeling".

PROVENANCE:  This print was published in "Sketches after English landscape painters. By L. Marvy. With short notices by W.M. Thackeray." Thackeray was an old friend of Marvy, a French artist, who took refuge in London after the chaos of 1848. 

TYPE: Antique etching, aquatint and soft-ground etching printed on paper. 

VERSO: There is a nothing on the reverse side which is blank.

CONDITION: Good, suitable for framing.  Please check the scan for any blemishes prior to making your purchase.
