The Mozambique 5,000 Meticais banknote is part of the 1989 issues. It is purple and brown in color and measures 140 x 68 mm. The obverse side shows a Portuguese text, a wood carving by Alberto Mabungulane Chissano, the coat of arms, and a Malangatana Ngwenya painting. The reverse side features a Portuguese text, a bank logo with hoe and pickaxe, three native warriors with shields and spears, and a modern band playing xylophone and drums. This banknote uses a solid security thread and contains a watermark with a Bust of Samora Mois Machel design.
