The Fitzwilliam's collection of applied art of the Arts and Crafts period includes furniture, metalwork, textiles, and ceramics such as these colourful tiles designed by William De Morgan and emblazoned with fish, birds, and dragons. De Morgan is known for his innovative handpainted designs, which took inspiration from the bright colours of Middle Eastern ceramics as well as from the natural world.
