From the introduction: As the years go by it becomes ever more important that the personal memories of Merseysiders on the civilian battlefront of the Second World War should be preserved. Those who lived through the blitz, who came under fire from enemy bombers, can hardly forget the experience; but others, who are too young to remember or were not yet born, should also learn about those momentous days.

Everyone who was in the Merseyside area during the blitz had a personal story to tell, usually one of miraculous escapes, often of tragedy - and always full of tales of comradeship, of working together and, of course, stories that reflected the irrepressible, in-bred Scouse humour.

Rodney Whitworth'sMerseyside at War is a day-by-day diary of the 1940- 1941 bombing. It will vividly bring back those days to the Merseysiders lucky enough to have lived through them. As Winston Churchill said, "This was their finest Hour". The book complements and amplifies - but by no means supplants - the companion-volume Bombers over Merseyside which was first published in 1943 and reprinted in facsimile by Scouse Press in 1983. For Bombers over Merseyside was a war-time effort, intended to boost morale and keep spirits up during the darkest days this country ever had to suffer. That story is therefore necessarily incomplete, for much of what really happened was necessarily concealed, or had to be carefully couched in terms that would not reveal useful information to the enemy...

Condition of the booklet is generally very good. The covers have some minor scuffs, but the staple spine is intact, and all pages are clean, intact, unblemished and tightly bound.

When we post our books, we take great care in packaging them - first your book will be wrapped in bubblewrap, which protects the book and even keeps out any rain (in the event that it's raining when the postie delivers it!).
