Greenback Party Political Satirical $1 Note

This popular and historical satirical note was originally part of a broadside that described the Greenback Party's platform with a portrait of Horatio Seymour, the Democratic Party's Presidential candidate (against US Grant) in 1868. The 5-20 bonds, referred to on the reverse  were named as such, because they matured in 20 years, but were redeemable by the Government after only 5 years & paid 6% interest. This example also displays a red overprint of the Middlesex County Democrat newspaper. The. Measures approx 7.5 x 3.5"
