Norway - A Group Of 21 Full Plate Size Photographs c.1880-90 By Knud Knudsen, Poulton & Co., Etc.

A charming group of original full plate size albumen photographs, dating to between c.1880’s-90’s and comprising:

Knud Knudsen (1832 - 1915) Seven photographs, all captioned and signed by Knudsen at the foot (one by “KK” initials) depicting a view of Bergen from a hill (No.9614), Svartisen Nordland (383), Molde (8441), Hammerfest (536), Sostre Nordland (368), Nordkap (539), Geiranger Sondmor (8566). All approx. 215x160mm., a few creases present though the images are still clear and sharp.

Poulton & Co. Four photographs, all captioned and signed at the foot showing Naes (C704), Sogne Fjord Gudvangen (C657), waterfall at Stalh(?) (C646), seven sisters waterfall (C692). All approx. 195x130mm., and overall in good condition.

Rich. Andvord (from Eneret) a view of Hardanger Odde (No.2435). Approx. 225x165mm., light creasing and  paper adhesions to reverse where removed from an album.

Unknown. A group of nine unsigned and uncaptioned photographs, though a few seem to be in the style of Knud Knudsen - in particular the social history scenes. All seem to be in poor to fair condition with tears and creasing present as well as paper adhesions to the reverse sides. The views of Hammer’s store (noted on the back as Odde and taken in June 1890) and a view of a rural couple showing the lady spinning wool are the stand-out views, the former with a 40mm tear at the foot. The other views show a town scene with many of the locals posing for the photograph (badly torn) and a rural scene of a small cabin with the occupants on the doorstep. The view of Bergen is in reasonably good condition as is the one with a large steam vessel in a fjord. Sizes between 205x153mm to 205x160mm. But the condition is very mixed for these.
