Cars of Pacific Electric Volume 1 City & Suburban Cars Special 28 is the first of three volumes that is full of pictures of the City & Suburban Cars of the Pacific Electric (PE).  The book has pictures and diagrams of PE cars from the first city cars to the suburban cars.

Gone are the big red cars which for many years gridironed the Los Angeles metropolitan area.  What were the big red cars really like? How many types were there? What were their numbers, and which routes they were assigned?  The answers are compiled in the in this book.

Cars of Pacific Electric Volume 1 City & Suburban Cars Special 28 follows the PE’s (Pacific Electric) roster plan.  The numbering scheme was worked out after the Great Merger in 1911.  The Great Merger was the combination of several component companies.  The numbering scheme was set up according to the type of service the interurban cars rendered.  That numbering scheme remained in effect throughout the existence of the Pacific Electric Railway.  This volume Cars of Pacific Electric Volume 1 City & Suburban Cars Special 28 focuses on the city cars and the suburban cars.  Each series of numbers has an explanation of what routes it served and when it was acquired and retired.  With each series are diagrams of the interurban cars and deluxe cars.  There are detailed drawing, photographs and schematics of the exteriors and interiors.  The detailed drawings include dimensions and parts listings.

Special 28 Covers all PE cars which performed local service and those which were used for the lighter type of interurban work.  Cars presented in numerically ascending order, except that 5050 class is quite properly alighted with the 600 class and thus precedes the 5000 class.

Cars of Pacific Electric Volume 1 City & Suburban Cars Special 28 is packed with pictures and diagrams of the interurban car and deluxe car interiors.  If you are a PE fan you will want to add this book to your collection, as well as Volume 2 Interurban & Deluxe Cars and Volume III Combos, Locomotives & Non-revenue Cars.

Small part of bottom of spine torn. The book is in good shape.
