ROBERT RAUSCHENBERG (1925-2008) One of the most influential American artists, having led the direction of contemporary art since his first showings in New York City in the early 1950s, Rauschenberg  gainied notoriety with his combine sculptures and paintings that often re-contextualized found objects from the streets of New York. He was one of the pioneers that utilized silk-screening to incorporate random imagery into his work. This element in his work was influential in the later work of Andy Warhol and the rest of the Pop Art movement. He is considered by many to be the master artist of his generation.
